Maybelline- The Colossal Big Shot Tinted Primer Review

Mascara, my favourite beauty product!  I feel as though I have tried almost every single mascara from drugstore to high-end, you name it and i’ve probably tried it.  Lashes are something that really completes a makeup look for me, and this is especially because I have hooded eyelids.  Having long lashes helps to hide the hood of your eye, and it also helps to make your eyes appear more open and awake.

One thing I love to incorporate into my mascara routine is a primer.  I started using mascara primers a few years ago, and I notice such a difference in the wear of my mascara- from the longevity to the definition of my lashes.  My all time favourite primer is the Dior- Diorshow Maximizer Primer which retails for C$37.00 at Sephora.   That primer specifically is expensive but it really does give amazing results.  But today i’m here to talk about a more affordable primer from the drugstore that also provides great results.  Maybelline The Colossal Big Shot Tinted Primer has really blown me away.

First of all, I LOVE that the primer is in black.  My reasoning for that is because it is black it makes the root of your lashes darker by adding a tightline effect, cause you can get right in the root of the lashes with the black formula = makes your lash line look so much thicker.  When you use a white colour primer you have to be careful when applying it to the roots, cause if you can’t get in there with your mascara afterward you’re left with white showing through.  But that most certainly isn’t an issue with the Maybelline Colossal Big Shot Tinted Primer because the formula is tinted.

The Colossal Big Shot Tinted Primer formula is a black fiber formula.  The wand deposits the perfect amount of product and amen to that!  I have tried some other fiber mascara formulas and they deposit too many fibers which make your lashes look extremely spidery and clumpy… Um, no thanks.

The application process is simple.  You coat your lashes with the product, wait a few seconds for it to dry and follow with your favourite mascara (or the Colossal Big Shot Mascara).  This formula adds length and volume and it’s a mascara-lovers dream come true!  I don’t wear liquid liner because I have hooded eyes, so I just tightline with black eyeshadow, and this primer pairs beautifully with that because it adds a lot of definition to the root of your lashes.  I was working out the other day at the gym and noticed the only downfall to this primer is it transfers a bit.  I wasn’t sweating a ton or anything, but when you workout and you make those beautiful workout faces LOL I was squinting a lot and noticed afterward it transferred down to my lower lash line skin.  But i’m sure this could be avoided by wearing a waterproof mascara overtop of the primer.  However, the clean up was fairly easy as I used a Q-tip and it came off pretty well without smudging too much.

I give this product a big thumbs up!  I am really impressed with the results this formula gives, and it’s a drugstore product so it only costs C$11.00 compared to the C$37.00 high-end primer I mentioned earlier.  This gives you length, volume AND tints your lashes, so you could even wear this just on its own for a natural look.  Maybelline is really killing it this year with their releases, so many of my favourite products right now are by them.  Have you tried this primer?  What is your favourite mascara primer?

I do like it a lot. I use two coats because I figure I need all the help I can get with less lashes than I used to have due to age. I use L’oreal Voluminous Waterproof Lash Paradise over that and High Impact Mascara for more thickness. Combination works great for me, Lot of products and time consumed. But I’m worth It!
The only drawback is that after using it for a few weeks, I noticed when you take the brush out to use it, the fibers come out in a clump. I don’t know if it’s just this tube or what. I put the tube in a cup of warm water and it got rid of the problem for now. I’ll still buy it as I don’t want to spend $$$ for a tube of mascara that lasts no longer than six weeks. Been there, done that.
