Guerlain- VIP Dave Lackie Dinner Event

Happy Saturday beauties!  So excited to be bringing you this recap of the Dave Lackie VIP Dinner for Guerlain #GuerlainLover I got to attend last week.  First of all I am still in shock I got to attend this event for one of the most iconic brands, I am seriously still in the “someone pinch me” state!  The venue was absolutely GORGEOUS, I have been to the Arcadian Court before, but this time it was absolutely magical.  Dave, his team and Guerlain really did an amazing job and this venue was beautifully decorated.  Upon arrival I could see the Guerlain products on display and the ambiance of the room was so mesmerizing I fell in love instantly.

Cougar Beauty- Magic Fiber Lash Extender Kit Review

Today I am working with Cougar Beauty, have you heard of them?  If you haven’t I highly suggest you check out their products.  Today’s review is on a fibre lash mascara.  Cougar is a brand from the UK and all products are manufactured there.  They pride themselves in offering their customers new, edgy and of high quality products.  They also only use cruelty free formulas, so there is no testing done on animals (thumbs up!).  Their packaging and marketing supplies are made from recycled materials (thumbs up again!).  They also source all ingredients locally, so all transportation is cut out, which in turn benefits our planet.  Way to go Cougar!  I’d like to thank Cougar and the Rosdon Group for sending me this product.

If you know me, you know i’ve tried basically every single mascara from drugstore to high-end.  Mascara is one of my favourite products, and I am always looking to try new ones and new formulas/techniques.  Cougar sent me their Magic Fiber Lash Extender Kit, and it is quite different than anything I have tried before.  I have tried some mascaras which have the fibres already in the product, but this one you apply separately.

The kit comes with two items, the mascara and the fibres.  The packaging states it will increase the thickness and volume of your lashes while still keeping them looking natural.  Here is a closer look at the products and how to use them:

Mascara:

Fibres:

Application instructions:

Step 1: Apply the mascara to clean lashes (they suggest doing one eye at a time).  You apply this from the base of the lashes to the tips, and ensure every lash has been coated, as you would with a regular mascara.

Step 2: Apply the fibre extender immediately after the mascara to just the tips of your lashes.  You have to make sure you do this right away while the mascara you first applied is still wet.

Step 3: Apply a second coat of the mascara from step 1 in order to seal the fibres.

I was really happy with the final result!  I could really see how my lashes were significantly longer, and a few people I saw the first day I had tried it commented on how long my eyelashes looked.  The only thing I found I didn’t get was a ton of volume, the product for sure gives you a lot of length, but in my experience I had to build up the product to get a bit more volume.  Or a tip I have is to just apply a coat of a volumizing mascara overtop once it has dried.  So I would say in terms of mascara effect it is a lot more lengthening than it is volumizing.

Another thing I loved is how I had this on all day (8 hours +) and it did not flake off, leave dark marks around my eyes or smudge whatsoever.  The formula is really great and it gives you long lashes for all day wear with no re-application necessary.  The consistency of the formula isn’t super thick, so it makes application on the lashes so easy, no clumping and no mess.  You can also use a lash comb to separate your lashes to achieve a more “fanned-out” look.  In terms of removal this is a winner.  Sometimes mascara can be so stubborn to get off completely, and this is also a “water resistant” formula so not fully waterproof, but still resistant.  Yet I was so impressed with how it came off SO easily.  I used my daily cleanser and warm water and it came right off no problem, without leaving a mess behind.

Have you tried a fibre mascara kit before?  I highly recommend giving Cougar products a try!  The formula is great and the company values and philosophies are inspiring and so refreshing to see!  This also works great as an alternative to eyelash extensions, which are really expensive and time consuming.  I like how you can apply this product and it also washes off contrary to lash extensions.  You can purchase the Magic Fiber Lash Extender Kit on their website here for £19.00.  If you’d like to check out some of their other products which range from beauty, skincare, hair and body care, follow this link! http://www.cougarbeautyproducts.com/

Urban Decay- Eyeshadow Primer Potion “Original” Review

If you have oily skin and/or eyelids, or like some extra pop/pigment to your eyeshadow shades, this is an absolute must in your makeup collection!

I’m sure many of you are already using an eyeshadow primer and perhaps even this one.  I wear eyeshadow every single day, so finding a primer that works well for me all day long is always at the top of my list.  I have tried so many different ones I have lost count.  I may also share my experience on other primers soon on my blog as others work well, but in the end this one is my absolute favourite and go-to when doing my eyseshadow.

The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion retails for C$26.00 online on Sephora’s website, you can view it here.  Today, I am reviewing the Original shade.  Urban Decay has 3 other eyeshadow primers available in the range and they are called Anti-Aging, Eden and Minor Sin.

The Primer Potion in Original is a nude shade.  I absolutely love it, it doesn’t add too much colour.  The way I would describe it, is that it basically just cancels out any veins or discolouration of the eyelid, leaving you with a perfect canvas to work with.

If you’re like me and you get oily skin throughout the day (no shame my friends, as we get older this means our skin will wrinkle less 😉 Woo!) then you need something to keep your eyeshadow in place.  As I mentioned above, I also love to use eyeshadow primer not only because it prevents creasing throughout the day, but it also gives your eyeshadow more intensity in terms of the pigment.

For the application of the product it is very simple.  Apply it to your eyelid (a little goes a REALLY long way) and either blend it in with a brush or your finger.  I prefer to blend it in with my finger as the warmth makes for a flawless finish.  The warmth from your finger  helps to make sure the product doesn’t settle into “fine lines” as much.  It dries within about 30 seconds after you apply it, so you have to work fast otherwise you end up with a creased effect.  It is important to blend it right away once you put it on your eyelid before it dries, if you don’t blend it in time when you apply your eyeshadow you are then left with uneven pigment, and you can visibly see where you didn’t blend it in correctly- it almost looks like small patches.

Tip: For those of you who don’t have an eyeshadow primer, or if you are ever in a pinch and run out of product, you can always use concealer on your eyelids as well.  This creates a great base and works well as a dupe or alternative to an eyeshadow primer.

I love the formula of this product because it is super easy to blend in.  Other eyeshadow primers I have tried work great, but when applying it on the eyelid you really have to tug at the skin to get it to blend.  As per one of my last blog posts, I mentioned how I really make a conscious effort to choose wisely when it comes to the products I put on my skin as well as how our skin ages.  With that being said, I don’t like to use products that require a ton of tugging or harsh blending in order to get the desired look.  This is just unnecessary “wear and tear” on your skin and I don’t want to be giving myself any extra wrinkles.  I know this may sound vain, but in the end I really value taking care of my skin.  I also follow a strict cleansing routine, so why not apply that same care to the products I use on my face and the way I apply them?

I give this product a 10 out of 10.  My eyeshadow stays put all day long, I never get creasing whatsoever.  Sometimes I have my eyeshadow on for 8 hours or 10-12 hours and still no creasing- it works SO well!  Have you tried any of the Urban Decay eyeshadow primers?  If so, what do you think of them?

IT Cosmetics- Airbrush Silk HD Anti-Aging Illuminizer Review

Hello beauties!  I know what you’re thinking “another highlighter review?” the answer is yes, but to be honest you can never have too many highlighters.  I think we can all agree to that!

Today’s feature is the IT Cosmetics Airbrush Silk HD Anti-Aging Illuminizer.   The formula is absolutely amazing.  I have also used their Bye Bye Pores powder (review coming on this soon) and I am such a fan.

This powder is made to be used on the highest points of the face.  This technique of highlighting/bringing forward goes alongside contouring which is the opposite effect to deepen/push back.  Using a highlighter such as this one makes your features pop, you can apply this to the following areas:

  • Centre of the forehead
  • Top-side of cheekbones
  • Brow bone
  • Bridge of the nose
  • Cupids bow (if you haven’t tried this I highly suggest it, it makes your lips appear fuller)

This powder is extremely fine and light.  It goes on smoothly and doesn’t look cakey.   This formula is also anti-aging, so it doesn’t settle into fine lines.  It blurs away the look of pores and imperfections.

Even better this product is formulated WITHOUT:

  • Talc
  • Parabens
  • Sodium Lauryl Sulfate
  • Mineral oil
  • Petrolatum
  • Synthetic fragrances and Phthalates

You can see how fine the powder is in this shot:

Here is a swatch:

How gorgeous is this sheen?  It catches the light so beautifully, it gives a very natural glow.  I find when I have this on it doesn’t look like makeup, it really looks natural, and anything that looks natural is a winner in my books!

I am really loving this highlighter and I can’t wait to try out more IT Cosmetics products.  You can purchase this for $24.00 here on their website.

Have you tried any IT Cosmetics products? What is your favourite??

Sally Hansen- Complete Salon Manicure Review

One of my favourite parts of the changing seasons is the darker colours coming back in for Fall and Winter.  Today i’m sharing one of my favourite Sally Hansen shades with you!

This shade is #451, it is called Commander In Chic.  I have really liked more neutral earth tone shades lately.  Sally Hansen offers a wide variety of shades at an affordable price.  You can often find Sally Hansen at your local drugstore, I picked mine up at Walmart.  The Complete Salon Manicure range has 88 shades according to Sally Hansen’s website, you can view them here.

Here is a swatch for a closer look:

The wand applicator for this range is a little larger than most wands.  I find it quite wide compared to other brands.  But in a way this is nice, it only requires two swipes or so to cover the entire nail.  I suggest holding the skin on the sides of the nail with your other fingers for easier application.  That way the polish doesn’t get on your skin.

If you like brown or purple polish shades, you will love this one.  It is the best of both worlds as both colours come out!  It is by far one of my favourite shades in my collection.  Tip: I suggest using a clear coat over this to make it last longer.  Sally Hansen states on their website you should get 10 days of wear out of this polish, but if you add the top coat this ensures you get that, and maybe a few extra days!

Here are some photos of my nails with the polish on.  I think it pairs beautifully with gold accessories!  In case you are wondering the photos below show me wearing two coats of the polish.

What is your favourite Sally Hansen shade?

Maison Jacynthe- Eyeshadow and Lipstick Review

Looking for a new eyeshadow or lipstick? Maison Jacynthe is the answer!  If you know me, you know I am all about eyeshadow.  I wear it every time I do my makeup, and I’m always looking for new colours to pair together and different finishes.  Maison Jacynthe sent me two eyeshadows and a lipstick to review, and I have found 3 new pieces to add to my “staples” collection.

Maison Jacynthe is a Canadian brand, products are made in Québec- YAY!  I love this quote from their brochure “Our 100% natural and active products are real food for the skin.”  You can use their products with confidence, knowing you are treating your skin to natural ingredients, not chemicals.

What you WON’T find in Maison Jacynthe products:

  • No petroleum byproducts
  • No artificial fragrances
  • No artificial preservatives

Maison Jacynthe’s active ingredients and fragrances come from plants and flowers.  I absolutely love this!

Here are some shots of the individual products I received:

Eyeshadow- 02 Crema:

Here is a closer look:

Crema is a beautiful shade.  I would say it is a bit of a cross between a frost and a lustre finish.  I use it as a highlight on the inner corner of the eyes, brow bone, or the entire mobile lid.  It is very rare for me to use a frost or lustre finish eyeshadow on my mobile lid, I love matte shades.  I usually only use the frost or lustre as a highlight shade on the eye.

Due to the fact that I have hooded lids, putting a finish like this all over the mobile lid or crease, usually ends up resulting in my eyes looking even more hooded.  When you apply these finishes to a hooded eye it captures the light (which brings things forward) and emphasizes the hood on the eye, making it look more severe than it actually is.  However, with this Maison Jacynthe eyeshadow I do not have this problem.  I actually love it all over the mobile lid, it is soft enough to not make the hooded lid stand out.  So to all my fellow hooded-eye beauties who are looking to add some sparkle to their collection- this is a must  if you normally tend to stay away from frost or lustre finishes for the same reasons I do- you will love this one!!

Eyeshadow- 09 Affogato:

Here is a closer look:

Affogato is AMAZING.  I can remember when I was 18 and going to prom, my Mom did my makeup for me.  She used this gorgeous purple/grey Revlon shade on my eyes and I was absolutely in love with it.  When I went to repurchase it after I ran out of it, I was disappointed to discover they discontinued the shade.  Affogato is almost exactly the same shade as that Revlon eyeshadow I was so sad to not be able to repurchase.  Maison Jacynthe’s shade is a gorgeous charcoal grey with a slight purple undertone.  If you have hazel eyes like me, or green eyes, it really makes them pop.  I love to use this shade in the crease.

I love to pair both these eyeshadows together.  Using Crema on my mobile lid, Affogato in the crease, and a bit of black eyeshadow on the outter V and lashline, and finish with some black mascara.  Both eyeshadows retail for C$22.00 each.

Moving on to lips, Maison Jacynthe also sent me this gorgeous lipstick.

Lipstick- 08 Corail Transparent Mate:

Corail Transparent Mate is so pretty.  It is matte, and goes on very easily- a little goes a long way.  I really like it because it is a beautiful coral shade, however, it is almost a cross between coral and red, and so it pairs well with a lot of different eyeshadow colour looks.  This lipstick goes on matte, but my favourite thing about it is that it is NOT drying.  Often times matte lipsticks can leave your lips feeling dry, but Maison Jacynthe’s almost has a creamy texture to it, so it’s easy to work with.  I also love the packaging of this product, how cute!!  It retails for C$33.00.

Tip: When using a matte lipstick such as this one, I suggest making sure you exfoliate your lips before application.  The only downfall to matte lipstick shades in my opinion is it really emphasizes dead skin if your lips are chapped.  I use a lip exfoliator before applying this and it goes on really well.

Overall Maison Jacynthe has a phenomenal makeup line.  I am so impressed at how pigmented the eyeshadows and lipstick are, a little of these products go a long way.  For a brand that has no chemicals and is made with natural ingredients, the makeup measures up to other high-end brands products that I use.  If you are looking for a birthday gift for someone, or still doing your holiday shopping, I strongly suggest checking out Maison Jacynthe!

Here are some swatches of all 3 products:

O.P.I – Red Nail Lacquer Review

I have been loving this O.P.I Nail Lacquer in shade Red.  I am an avid O.P.I fan all around, and this shade has made it to the top of my list.

It is the perfect red shade.  Not too deep or too bright.  I love how it’s right in the middle, and it kind of gives you the best of both worlds.  This is a great transition shade for the fall season, it gets you back into the groove of using dark shades as winter is approaching!

I really like the wand and brush that comes with these nail lacquers.  The wand is easy to hold because it’s not as thin as most nail lacquer wands.  This gives you better control when applying!

The brush width is perfect as well.  Usually only takes me 2 to 3 swipes to cover the entire nail.

Colour payoff wise, O.P.I does an amazing job!  I only needed 1 coat of this to get the desired effect.

So if you are in the market for a new shade, I recommend this one to add to your collection.

What’s your favourite O.P.I shade??

Estée Lauder- New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit

Today we are talking Estée Lauder.  One of my favourite brands.  This post will focus on their New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit, a must-have if you like contouring, whether it be a natural look, or a more intense look- this duo has got you covered!

Estée Lauder is an iconic brand.  What I think sets them apart from some other high-end brands, is that they have a triple threat effect.  By this I mean they have great products in all aspects of beauty.  They have amazing makeup, skincare and fragrances.  Most brands are often known for excelling in 1 of those categories, but Estée Lauder rocks it in all 3.

Last September, I was very lucky and got invited to an Estée Lauder event hosted by Dave Lackie in Toronto.  This was one of the products featured, and we learned how to contour from a pro Estée Lauder makeup artist.  I have been loving this New Dimension line ever since.

The New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit is designed to “Perfect your profile from every angle.”  This duo comes with a highlighting shade and a contouring shade.  You can lift and define using these products together.  Both shades are matte and they are in cream form.  They are suitable for a range of skintones as well, which I find pretty cool!  So if you are nervous to try out contouring because you don’t know what shade to get, a duo like this is perfect for you.

Personally, I am one who really likes the “natural look”.  But what is great about this duo is how the product is buildable.  So whether you wish to achieve a daytime look, or a more dramatic look for a night out, you have this option.  You can intensify the contour you create by applying additional product, it is very buildable and easy to blend.

Note: The sponge applicator that comes with the duo has product on it from me using this.

The highlight shade is on the left and the contour shade is on the right.  If you desire a natural look they suggest applying this before foundation.  If you desire a dramatic look, then apply this after your foundation, preferably liquid or creme foundation.  I actually do not wear foundation at all, and I can tell you this product works beautifully without foundation as well.  Because it is a cream, it is so smooth and once applied to the skin it warms up, making it blend so easily and look super natural.  This duo really gives your face more structure and symmetry.

Here is a closer look at both.  I apologize for the obvious sponge marks in the product photos, but I have been using it a lot.

Highlight shade:

Contouring shade:

Another thing I know you will all love is how you don’t need a lot of product to get results.  This means a little goes a long way, and your duo will last longer.  Yay!

The duo also comes with a small booklet to show you exactly where to apply both shades.

You can purchase this kit from an Estée Lauder counter or from Sephora for C$55.00.  If you need or would like additional guidance on how to use the duo, you can visit Estée Lauder’s website here and scroll to the bottom of the page for step-by-step instructions including a video.

Do you love anything from the New Dimension line?  Leave me a comment or a tweet, would love to chat about it!

Bobbi Brown- Eye Shadow, Blush and Eye Brush Review

This week I am talking about Bobbi Brown again.  YES- another Bobbi Brown review, because her products are THAT awesome.  I will forever be in love!!

If you missed my last post on Bobbi Brown you can view it here, I reviewed a bronzer and highlighter pencil! I also spoke about Bobbi Brown and my love for her line in my guest appearance last week on Cat Forsley‘s beauty podcast MyLipAddiction, you can listen to it on iTunes and other channels, click here for my post with the links.

This review will be on a blush, eye shadow and an eye blending brush.

I said it in my last review and I can’t say it enough.  What I love most about her products is how blendable they are.  It’s amazing.  Whether you are a beginner in makeup or experienced, they are very easy products to work with.  The other great thing is the colour payoff.  When I use this eyeshadow and blush, I barely have to put any on my brush, a little goes a very long way.  Which is a win because your product lasts longer!

Here are some individual shots of each:

Eye Shadow in shade 13 Cocoa.  I love how this shadow really warms up the crease.  It really brings out the green in my eyes too.  I purchased this for C$29.00, you can view it here.

img_0164

Blush in shade 11 Nectar.  This is SO beautiful and natural looking, I love how Nectar creates the perfect natural blushing shade.  I purchased this for C$33.00, you can view it here.

I also have a lot of favourite makeup brushes as we all do (stay tuned for a post on this soon!) but I am really loving this brush, and I am so impressed with it so I am going to post about it today and in my favourite brushes post coming soon.  It has gone straight up to the top of my favourites list!  Here is a closer look at it:

This is her eye brush called Eye Blender.  I love using this when I am done applying all of my eye shadow for an overall blend to bring all of the shadows together.  You don’t have to put a lot of pressure to get the blended effect.  I love how soft it is, and how it does NOT tug at the skin on my eye at all.  I purchased this for C$40.00, you can view it here.

I give all 3 of these a 10/10.  I am never let down by Bobbi Brown products, and I love the company philosophies, which I spoke about in my last post as well.  I highly recommend all of the products of hers I have mentioned on my blog!  I think my cat Abby does as well, because she couldn’t keep her paws off of it while I was trying to take photos hehe!
