I previously reviewed the Milani Baked Blush in Luminoso and LOVE it.  Since then i’ve also been loving the latest Milani addition to my collection, the 08 Tea Rose powder blush.

Urban Decay- Eyeshadow Primer Potion “Original” Review

If you have oily skin and/or eyelids, or like some extra pop/pigment to your eyeshadow shades, this is an absolute must in your makeup collection!

I’m sure many of you are already using an eyeshadow primer and perhaps even this one.  I wear eyeshadow every single day, so finding a primer that works well for me all day long is always at the top of my list.  I have tried so many different ones I have lost count.  I may also share my experience on other primers soon on my blog as others work well, but in the end this one is my absolute favourite and go-to when doing my eyseshadow.

The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion retails for C$26.00 online on Sephora’s website, you can view it here.  Today, I am reviewing the Original shade.  Urban Decay has 3 other eyeshadow primers available in the range and they are called Anti-Aging, Eden and Minor Sin.

The Primer Potion in Original is a nude shade.  I absolutely love it, it doesn’t add too much colour.  The way I would describe it, is that it basically just cancels out any veins or discolouration of the eyelid, leaving you with a perfect canvas to work with.

If you’re like me and you get oily skin throughout the day (no shame my friends, as we get older this means our skin will wrinkle less 😉 Woo!) then you need something to keep your eyeshadow in place.  As I mentioned above, I also love to use eyeshadow primer not only because it prevents creasing throughout the day, but it also gives your eyeshadow more intensity in terms of the pigment.

For the application of the product it is very simple.  Apply it to your eyelid (a little goes a REALLY long way) and either blend it in with a brush or your finger.  I prefer to blend it in with my finger as the warmth makes for a flawless finish.  The warmth from your finger  helps to make sure the product doesn’t settle into “fine lines” as much.  It dries within about 30 seconds after you apply it, so you have to work fast otherwise you end up with a creased effect.  It is important to blend it right away once you put it on your eyelid before it dries, if you don’t blend it in time when you apply your eyeshadow you are then left with uneven pigment, and you can visibly see where you didn’t blend it in correctly- it almost looks like small patches.

Tip: For those of you who don’t have an eyeshadow primer, or if you are ever in a pinch and run out of product, you can always use concealer on your eyelids as well.  This creates a great base and works well as a dupe or alternative to an eyeshadow primer.

I love the formula of this product because it is super easy to blend in.  Other eyeshadow primers I have tried work great, but when applying it on the eyelid you really have to tug at the skin to get it to blend.  As per one of my last blog posts, I mentioned how I really make a conscious effort to choose wisely when it comes to the products I put on my skin as well as how our skin ages.  With that being said, I don’t like to use products that require a ton of tugging or harsh blending in order to get the desired look.  This is just unnecessary “wear and tear” on your skin and I don’t want to be giving myself any extra wrinkles.  I know this may sound vain, but in the end I really value taking care of my skin.  I also follow a strict cleansing routine, so why not apply that same care to the products I use on my face and the way I apply them?

I give this product a 10 out of 10.  My eyeshadow stays put all day long, I never get creasing whatsoever.  Sometimes I have my eyeshadow on for 8 hours or 10-12 hours and still no creasing- it works SO well!  Have you tried any of the Urban Decay eyeshadow primers?  If so, what do you think of them?

Estée Lauder- New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit

Today we are talking Estée Lauder.  One of my favourite brands.  This post will focus on their New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit, a must-have if you like contouring, whether it be a natural look, or a more intense look- this duo has got you covered!

Estée Lauder is an iconic brand.  What I think sets them apart from some other high-end brands, is that they have a triple threat effect.  By this I mean they have great products in all aspects of beauty.  They have amazing makeup, skincare and fragrances.  Most brands are often known for excelling in 1 of those categories, but Estée Lauder rocks it in all 3.

Last September, I was very lucky and got invited to an Estée Lauder event hosted by Dave Lackie in Toronto.  This was one of the products featured, and we learned how to contour from a pro Estée Lauder makeup artist.  I have been loving this New Dimension line ever since.

The New Dimension Shape + Sculpt Face Kit is designed to “Perfect your profile from every angle.”  This duo comes with a highlighting shade and a contouring shade.  You can lift and define using these products together.  Both shades are matte and they are in cream form.  They are suitable for a range of skintones as well, which I find pretty cool!  So if you are nervous to try out contouring because you don’t know what shade to get, a duo like this is perfect for you.

Personally, I am one who really likes the “natural look”.  But what is great about this duo is how the product is buildable.  So whether you wish to achieve a daytime look, or a more dramatic look for a night out, you have this option.  You can intensify the contour you create by applying additional product, it is very buildable and easy to blend.

Note: The sponge applicator that comes with the duo has product on it from me using this.

The highlight shade is on the left and the contour shade is on the right.  If you desire a natural look they suggest applying this before foundation.  If you desire a dramatic look, then apply this after your foundation, preferably liquid or creme foundation.  I actually do not wear foundation at all, and I can tell you this product works beautifully without foundation as well.  Because it is a cream, it is so smooth and once applied to the skin it warms up, making it blend so easily and look super natural.  This duo really gives your face more structure and symmetry.

Here is a closer look at both.  I apologize for the obvious sponge marks in the product photos, but I have been using it a lot.

Another thing I know you will all love is how you don’t need a lot of product to get results.  This means a little goes a long way, and your duo will last longer.  Yay!

The duo also comes with a small booklet to show you exactly where to apply both shades.

You can purchase this kit from an Estée Lauder counter or from Sephora for C$55.00.  If you need or would like additional guidance on how to use the duo, you can visit Estée Lauder’s website here and scroll to the bottom of the page for step-by-step instructions including a video.

Do you love anything from the New Dimension line?  Leave me a comment or a tweet, would love to chat about it!

Bobbi Brown- Eye Shadow, Blush and Eye Brush Review

This week I am talking about Bobbi Brown again.  YES- another Bobbi Brown review, because her products are THAT awesome.  I will forever be in love!!

If you missed my last post on Bobbi Brown you can view it here, I reviewed a bronzer and highlighter pencil! I also spoke about Bobbi Brown and my love for her line in my guest appearance last week on Cat Forsley‘s beauty podcast MyLipAddiction, you can listen to it on iTunes and other channels, click here for my post with the links.

This review will be on a blush, eye shadow and an eye blending brush.

I said it in my last review and I can’t say it enough.  What I love most about her products is how blendable they are.  It’s amazing.  Whether you are a beginner in makeup or experienced, they are very easy products to work with.  The other great thing is the colour payoff.  When I use this eyeshadow and blush, I barely have to put any on my brush, a little goes a very long way.  Which is a win because your product lasts longer!

Here are some individual shots of each:

Eye Shadow in shade 13 Cocoa.  I love how this shadow really warms up the crease.  It really brings out the green in my eyes too.  I purchased this for C$29.00, you can view it here.

Blush in shade 11 Nectar.  This is SO beautiful and natural looking, I love how Nectar creates the perfect natural blushing shade.  I purchased this for C$33.00, you can view it here.

I also have a lot of favourite makeup brushes as we all do (stay tuned for a post on this soon!) but I am really loving this brush, and I am so impressed with it so I am going to post about it today and in my favourite brushes post coming soon.  It has gone straight up to the top of my favourites list!  Here is a closer look at it:

This is her eye brush called Eye Blender.  I love using this when I am done applying all of my eye shadow for an overall blend to bring all of the shadows together.  You don’t have to put a lot of pressure to get the blended effect.  I love how soft it is, and how it does NOT tug at the skin on my eye at all.  I purchased this for C$40.00, you can view it here.

I give all 3 of these a 10/10.  I am never let down by Bobbi Brown products, and I love the company philosophies, which I spoke about in my last post as well.  I highly recommend all of the products of hers I have mentioned on my blog!  I think my cat Abby does as well, because she couldn’t keep her paws off of it while I was trying to take photos hehe!

These girls are absolutely so sweet.  I am so thankful to have met them all thanks to Dave Lackie and beauty blogging.  From left to right: Christine, myself, Nicci and Cat.

This taping was on a Friday so we got to see a Fashion Friday segment live with Lynn Spence!!! Here are a few photos of some of my favourite outfits shown:

We also had the treat of seeing Dave’s beauty and fragrance segments!  He and Tracy Moore the host of the show are soo funny together!

The amount of work the crew puts in is unbelievable.  When you watch the show you really don’t know what goes on behind the scenes, and the amount of team work and dedication it takes to make everything happen.  Absolutely phenomenal people, they were all very sweet and great at explaining how things work.

I also got to see the control/production room, this was so cool!

This is where the director calls the shots, and the videos and content used in the show gets uploaded (to name a few).  Lots of team work happening in this room!

After the show I went down to take some photos of the set up close.  It is so lovely, I love the vibe they have going on.  So pretty, fresh and modern.

The official Cityline set doors:

The different sections of the set:

I also had my photo taken with Lynn Spence and Candy Signorini, they were both SO funny and great to chat with:

Thank you SO MUCH to Dave and everyone at Cityline for having us.  You treated us to an amazing experience, and showed us a side of broadcast that not many people get to see unless they work in the industry.  The crew really is like a family there, and it is inspiring to see a group of individuals come together, work hard and produce something so many people love like Cityline.

Here is a photo of the extremely generous gift bag we received.  Will be doing some individual posts on some of these products:

I also did a short question interview with Dave on his role with Cityline, and the beauty industry in general.  I wanted to include it in this post, but it would be too long, and I also really think it deserves its own feature/post.  I will instead include it as a separate piece, so stay tuned on my blog this week for that- you won’t want to miss this!  Those of you that already know Dave as well know how kind he is, and I am so grateful he took the time to answer some questions I asked him, and that I can share this with all of you.  I cannot wait for you to see that post this week!

The taping we attended will be airing on Friday, September 9th on CityTV.  If you missed the fun, you can see it all under the hashtag #citylinebeauty.
