If you have oily skin and/or eyelids, or like some extra pop/pigment to your eyeshadow shades, this is an absolute must in your makeup collection!
I’m sure many of you are already using an eyeshadow primer and perhaps even this one. I wear eyeshadow every single day, so finding a primer that works well for me all day long is always at the top of my list. I have tried so many different ones I have lost count. I may also share my experience on other primers soon on my blog as others work well, but in the end this one is my absolute favourite and go-to when doing my eyseshadow.
The Urban Decay Eyeshadow Primer Potion retails for C$26.00 online on Sephora’s website, you can view it here. Today, I am reviewing the Original shade. Urban Decay has 3 other eyeshadow primers available in the range and they are called Anti-Aging, Eden and Minor Sin.
The Primer Potion in Original is a nude shade. I absolutely love it, it doesn’t add too much colour. The way I would describe it, is that it basically just cancels out any veins or discolouration of the eyelid, leaving you with a perfect canvas to work with.
If you’re like me and you get oily skin throughout the day (no shame my friends, as we get older this means our skin will wrinkle less 😉 Woo!) then you need something to keep your eyeshadow in place. As I mentioned above, I also love to use eyeshadow primer not only because it prevents creasing throughout the day, but it also gives your eyeshadow more intensity in terms of the pigment.
For the application of the product it is very simple. Apply it to your eyelid (a little goes a REALLY long way) and either blend it in with a brush or your finger. I prefer to blend it in with my finger as the warmth makes for a flawless finish. The warmth from your finger helps to make sure the product doesn’t settle into “fine lines” as much. It dries within about 30 seconds after you apply it, so you have to work fast otherwise you end up with a creased effect. It is important to blend it right away once you put it on your eyelid before it dries, if you don’t blend it in time when you apply your eyeshadow you are then left with uneven pigment, and you can visibly see where you didn’t blend it in correctly- it almost looks like small patches.
Tip: For those of you who don’t have an eyeshadow primer, or if you are ever in a pinch and run out of product, you can always use concealer on your eyelids as well. This creates a great base and works well as a dupe or alternative to an eyeshadow primer.
I love the formula of this product because it is super easy to blend in. Other eyeshadow primers I have tried work great, but when applying it on the eyelid you really have to tug at the skin to get it to blend. As per one of my last blog posts, I mentioned how I really make a conscious effort to choose wisely when it comes to the products I put on my skin as well as how our skin ages. With that being said, I don’t like to use products that require a ton of tugging or harsh blending in order to get the desired look. This is just unnecessary “wear and tear” on your skin and I don’t want to be giving myself any extra wrinkles. I know this may sound vain, but in the end I really value taking care of my skin. I also follow a strict cleansing routine, so why not apply that same care to the products I use on my face and the way I apply them?
I give this product a 10 out of 10. My eyeshadow stays put all day long, I never get creasing whatsoever. Sometimes I have my eyeshadow on for 8 hours or 10-12 hours and still no creasing- it works SO well! Have you tried any of the Urban Decay eyeshadow primers? If so, what do you think of them?
